Friendly Fire: Afghanistan

The Friendly Fire Collective in the Bay Area have been churning out some cool propaganda of late, most recently the Afghanistan poster seen below. You can download a high res pdf of the poster here. They have a ton more graphics here.

A dark landscape photo from a hilltop showing a sprawling city in lights below. A montage of a map of Afghanistan hovers above two military men who patrol on the hilltop with machine guns. There are superimposed cut-out marks around the GIs, with small scissors icons. Text states, “Dismantle the occupations. When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan 29 years ago it, too, wanted to overthrow a hostile government and install a more compliant regime. Nine years and 15,000 lives later, the Red Army retreated, worn down by a relentless Islamist insurgency, in a defeat that precipitated the Soviet collapse two years later.  Now, Obama want to increase the West’s presence in Afghanistan to pacify the area and make it ripe for U.S. investment and the construction of new military bases. The assertion that Afghanistan lacks the capacity to govern itself is making use of the same logic that has brought us centuries of imperialism, exploitation and conflict in the name of ‘civilization’ and ‘democracy.’ It is in this vein that we resist all occupation, at home and abroad.
