Opening program featuring internationally celebrated Iraqi-American poet Dunya Mikhail 

Join us for the Chicago premiere of Poetry Despite/Music Despite (Eternal War Requiem). This award-winning multi-media project by Aaron Hughes with Karim Wasfi, Dunya Mikhail, Syrian Kings, Kevin Basl, & Carlos Sirah connects artists across time and place, from World War I to the current state of endless war, from the US to the Middle East. These connections acknowledge the recurring traumas of war and, conversely, the human connections that happen despite the trauma and pain. 

The opening program will include a featured reading from poet Dunya Mikhail along with remarks from artist Aaron Hughes and music from the Poetry Despite/Music Despite (Eternal War Requiem) album.
