IVAW at the G20

Jon Orlando & Ryan Hayes

This image is from Celebrate People’s History/Iraq Veterans Against the War: Ten Years of Fighting for Peace and Justice, a portfolio that celebrated IVAW’s first ten years and was produced by Justseeds, IVAW, Booklyn, Repetitive Press, and the Civilian Soldier Alliance.

(IVAW is now known as About Face: Veterans Against the War)

This print is based on the IVAW mud stencil action, “We will not sacrifice for your profit. We will not kill for your profit,” at the 2009 G20 Summit in Pittsburgh. Prior to and during the Summit IVAW reached out to the Pennsylvania National Guard, encouraging them to stand down and resist their orders to mobilize for the Summit.

Ryan Hayes is an artist and activist living and working in Toronto. He is a member of the Radical Design School and blogs at www.blog.ryanhay.es.

A black and white photograph of a young Black person squatting, wearing a hoodie, glasses, and working on a mud stencil against a tiled wall, stating, “We will not kill for your profit.” In the corner, a black text logo of “G20 IVAW, Pittsburg, 2009”.

Seattle’s International Working Women’s Day for Palestine and Beyond

“We stand in solidarity with our Palestinian siblings in Gaza and those among our community who are directly and indirectly affected by the current war and genocide by the Israeli settler-colonial regime. Passive observation of the horrors of bombings, genocide, and prolonged apartheid is not our way. We must rise and firmly proclaim that Palestinian Liberation is a Feminist Imperative.” – Feminists for Jina Seattle
