I originally created this graphic back around 2000/2001—for a short-lived lefty newspaper called Chicago Ink—long before Whole Foods was swallowed by the even larger Amazon monster. I unearthed it while digging through old files, and thought it might be useful to those organizing around Whole Foods/Amazon now.
If you do use this, I’d love to see images. And if you use it as an illustration, and have a budget to pay a little for use, that would be amazing, too!

A “WHOLEFOODS” storefront is actually sprawling octopus in this image. Each tentacle reaches out and grabs a protesting person. Signs held by the struggling people say: “COOPERATIVES,” “INDEPENDENT HEALTH FOOD STORES,” “UNIONS,” “AFFORDABLE NATURAL FOOD.”
