In an uncanny turn of events, I was just preparing to print these words of Assata Shakur’s when I heard of her passing. I’ve returned again and again to this text of hers (from her poem Affirmation) for inspiration, most recently as part of a broadside for my installation Songs of Enclosure and Exclosure at Glen Foerd. Rest in Power Assata!
I'll be donating portions of the print run to Address This!, a political education course for the incarcerated and to Prudence Katzes' forthcoming documentary film on the ecological impacts of the US/Mexico border wall.
