Inspired by “Low rent - Woodhill Homes, 2567 Woodhill Road,” the graphic focuses on the importance of everyone having access to affordable housing. Affordable homes provide the foundation for people to feel honored, cared for, safe, and inspired to build the communities we imagine for ourselves and each other. Portions of the graphic were originally created for the 2023 Chicago Area Fair Housing Alliance Conference. The graphic was commissioned by the National Public Housing Museum as part of their WPA Poster permanent exhibition. This portfolio is made up of three posters conceived as part of a commission by the National Public Housing Museum to celebrate the opening of the first national museum dedicated to telling the stories of the people in public housing and to honor the legacy of the Works Progress Administration (WPA). The New Deal art programs were a series of initiatives by the Roosevelt administration during the Great Depression to employ artists and bring art to the public. These programs, primarily part of the Works Progress Administration (WPA), provided work for artists, created a vast body of public art, and aimed to democratize art access. The WPA had a series of posters meant to promote and educate the public on public housing, and this graphic is inspired by one of the many posters generated to promote and educate Americans on the communal benefits of affordable public housing.
