Inspired by a line from QUEERS READ THIS, a manifesto distributed by Anonymous Queers at the 1990 Pride march in NYC which urges militancy in the face of violence, homophobia, and the denial of the AIDS epidemic. It claims the word queer as an antidote to assimilation, and in opposition to conforming to the norms of the straight world. "We are an army because we have to be. We are an army because we are so powerful. (We have so much to fight for; we are the most precious of endangered species.) And we are an army of lovers because it is we who know what love is." Read it here in ACT UP New York's online archive.
Please note that risograph prints are perfectly imperfect and my have ink inconsistencies or track marks from the machine as seen in the image of this print.
