A couple years ago, we were biking with our kid through the city. We were teaching him to navigate crossing streets and using sidewalks since we don't have many bicycle paths. He has bicycled in France, where there are beautiful bicycle paths through vineyards that go from town to town. So, he told us that he thought the roads for cars in our city were covering up too much of the ground, and that we should plant fields where some of the roads should be. I told him I thought that was a great idea for a poster, and I asked him what the message should be. He responded, "turn roads into meadows."
I made a series of sketches that didn't seem quite right, and so the idea waited. This fall, we were biking through the city and he stopped at a cross walk, and I took a photo and asked him to make a gesture that he was throwing seeds onto the ground. This poster finally came to life.
It is a 4 layer print using carvings on woodblock and linoleum, and spray paint stencil. Edition of 41, numbered and signed on the back of the print.
