This was originally a collage I made it right after I heard that a town I had called home for 8 years was under several feet of toxic flooded water. It sat hidden in my studio for a few years and years later I dug it out during the housing crisis in 2008. At that time, I was also thinking a lot about what I want a better world to look like- which included gardening, growing and relearning. I realized that a Buenaventura Durruti quote seemed to connect some of what I was thinking and feeling when I made that collage, and how I was trying to envision living in the world from a proactive mindset rather than just a reactive one. When I paired the quote and the image I was reading Ursula M. Franklin's book Pacifism as a Map and the way she talks about justice, peace, and technology was inspiring.
This image is of several birds flying through the sky, an orange sun hangs amidst a sky full of clouds. There is rubble below. The birds are rising up holding red ribbons in their beaks. A piece of Durruti's quote is written at the top with his name written underneath. The quote says "...We are not in the least afraid of ruins... We carry a new world, here, in our hearts..."
This is a 4 color offset print. On a nice creamy mid-weight paper. Printed in 2009. These are signed.
