Emmy Bright is an artist and educator living in Providence. She makes drawings, and prints, and sometimes paper, going back and forth between intuitive and analytical ways of working. Emmy cares very much about feminist pedagogy, and teaching is one of her main jams. This year she is psyched to be working with younger and older artists, mentors, and teachers from New Urban Arts, RISD, Providence College, and City College New York.
The piece: This print came about in collaboration with Delia Kovac. Both care a lot about Pema Chödrön, a Buddhist nun who is not usually identified with the feminist canon, or with the rights of a particular group. However she is deeply concerned with the quality of life for individuals and communities, and she shares teachings and practices to make this world a more humane place for everyone. She is totally fierce and also gentle – as they both hope to be. Emmy’s website is http://www.emmybright.com
