The Tren Maya is a multibillion dollar megaproject being pushed by Mexico’s ostensibly left-wing President AMLO, which aims to connect tourist destinations surrounding the Yucatan peninsula. The project cuts through indigenous territories and wild forests, and has faced concerted opposition on the ground from indigenous communities as well as the EZLN (Zapatistas).
