This is my modest take on a (re)imagination of a flag. It’s a larger version of the print I made for the Justseeds 2017 Community Supported Art program, “Earth Protectors: Global Movements against Climate Change.” The stars are a map of the night sky that’s become extinct in most urbanized areas with the north star of the Underground Railroad at the top. The stripes drip as blood or oil or both, foundations of the country. The teepees are the Standing Rock camp, grounding the idea of “America” between sky and soil. If I were to draw it again, I might include some trucks around the camp, placing it in the present. Here’s a bit more I wrote about the inspiration behind the print.
