In “Futuro Colectivo” I focused on the links between past and present movements for autonomy and self determination by Puerto Ricans, both on and off the island. I was also trying to draw a link between the exciting projects being developed in Puerto Rico by residents in relation to sustainability and economic independence with a focus on mutual aid and community, and trying to imagine what a collective future could look like. In the print I added an important Indigenous plant from Puerto Rico called Palo de Jazmín that is also endangered. Inside some of the leaves are the Young Lords marching in NYC. In this I was trying to highlight the connected freedom struggles on and off the island, and across the diaspora. At the bottom of the print there is a hand that is attempting to write our “ Futuro Colectivo” or “Collective Future”
