The Mirabal sisters were active organizers of the resistance movement in the Dominican Republic against the dictator Rafael Trujillo. Patria, Minerva, and Maria Teresa were arrested with their husbands. Trujillo released the sisters and had them murdered on November 25, 1960. The lives of the Mirabal sisters inspire continued feminist resistance.
