This image, like many I work on, is a series of visual associations: I saw a newspaper photograph of prisoners in the Guantanamo interrogation facility in orange jumpsuits and sensory deprivation hoods, and in my mind I saw a field of orange California poppies, and from there I thought of opium poppies in Afghanistan... "Political art" can deliver a didactic message, or it can hold the complexity of a political stance in the associations of contradictory images or in the tension created between image and text...
