Ian Cozzens is a queer & trans artist, organizer and human. He lives and works in the Olneyville neighborhood of Providence, RI. He screen-prints posters, draws buildings, letterforms and occasionally people, and puts together events in Providence’s queer community. He’s sustained by bike riding, farming, pushing towards the difficult core of the conversation and staying up all night by himself working & thinking. He aspires to more multiplicity, more contradiction and more self-actualization.
The piece: This print was called into being by reading Normal Life by Dean Spade, Black Sexual Politics by Patricia Hill Collins, Disidentifications by José Esteban Muñoz, and reading Tumblr: especially that of “feral-femme” and “calloutqueen.” I’m pushing towards making things that are personal and political at the same time. I’m also working on writing and articulating the ways various forms of oppression are insidious and linked and comprehending the forms in which resistance is present. This is an attempt in that direction.
