In September of 2017 I painted a mural in Oakland, CA, that was based on the idea of a Bear-shaped hole in California. The California Grizzly is found on the state flag, but is absent from California itself. Their history mirrors the settler-colonial transformation of the California landscape, and there’s room for them to return.

This print is made from 6 vellum panels with ink washes and stippling, and one layer of rubylith film. It’s a bit of an experiment.
