"The earth is my quilombo. My space is my quilombo. Where I am, I am. When I am somewhere, I am someone."

Beatriz Nascimento is one of the most important Black intellectual figures in 20th century Brazilian history. She produced some of the most dynamic, innovative and foundational ideas about Brazilian history, culture, politics, and the Black condition in the Americas. Her ideas ranged from analyses of gender and sexuality, to historical and sociological/anthropological reflections on the lived realities of quilombos (maroon communities) in Brazil past and present.

“We stand in solidarity with our Palestinian siblings in Gaza and those among our community who are directly and indirectly affected by the current war and genocide by the Israeli settler-colonial regime. Passive observation of the horrors of bombings, genocide, and prolonged apartheid is not our way. We must rise and firmly proclaim that Palestinian Liberation is a Feminist Imperative.” – Feminists for Jina Seattle
