I made this design as a stencil while constructing the Justseeds collaborative installation "Which Side Are You On?" in Milwaukee. I wanted to make a design addressing the recent economic crisis and draw a connection to real estate development. In this graphic I referenced the proposed renderings of the Atlantic Yards, a mega-development project in Brooklyn, NY. The high pace and quantity of development projects in cities like NY, in my opinion, were rushing approval and construction before the evident market collapse. Even now, as many projects are unfinished and have little chance of making any profit, developers are hoping for bailout funds, tax exemptions, or other public subsidies. I can't help but feel that these were built for collapse.
