One of the greatest and most enduring images from England's centuries of rebellion against a never-ending tide of arbitrary civil, religious and aristocratic authority is that of the world turned upside down. People wear shoes on their heads, dogs walk their owners, and the vampires of society (police, priests, lords and ladies) serve the people instead of incessantly sucking their blood. Here's to that inverted place, always so near to hand and yet so far away.
A note on process: this is a totally handmade print, produced without computers- I painted the image of the buildings on architectural vellum, a nice translucent cotton paper which works great as a positive film for screen-printing, used rubylith for the color layers, and cut out slices of Chartpak halftone film for the shading on the clouds. Atavistic= awesome.
