Sounds of the Week #12

October 24, 2013

Welcome back to Sounds of the Week, the weekly sound musings by members of Justseeds. This week The Body, Judas Priest, and the MC5.

Sound Notes From Pete:
First off I highly recommend watching this documentary on the MC5. The live footage of the band is pretty amazing. The history of their rise in popularity, their involvement in the White Panther Party, their positioning as musicians in the activist world of the late 60’s, along with the fact that they were the only band that showed up and played the Democratic Convention of 1968 in Chicago all makes this 2 hours worth your time if you are at all interested in the development of heavy music in the US.

Second, this song “winter” by Judas Priest is so great. This is early Priest, a bit unlike the later power metal they are known for.

Finally, the Body have a new album out and are touring. If they are in your town you should go, they play here in Milwaukee Friday at the Center Street Free Space. The new album was streaming online, I listened to it and its great, very abstract brutal noise. Here’s one song you can still stream.
