As Long As the Grass Shall Grow & the Rivers Shall Flow

This design is based on Evan Haney’s testimony at the Vietnam Veterans Against the War Winter Soldier Investigation. Haney was a Vietnam veteran and member of the American Indian Movement. His full testimony along with hundreds of other testimonies to war crimes and human rights violations during the Vietnam War were submitted to congress in 1971.

This graphic is part of the Wellspring portfolio.

A dark green background features a flowing, turquoise and white waterfall, surrounded by light green grasses and plants. Rocks interrupt the flow of the water, which is rendered with detailed linework. At the top, the text states: “as long as the grass shall grow and the river shall flow.” More text in small type states: “‘When we made treaties long ago, it was for as long as the grass shall grow and as long as the river shall flow. The way things are going now, one of these days the grass isn’t going to grow… and the rivers aren’t going to flow.’ — Evan Haney, Vietnam veteran and member of the American Indian Movement testifying at the Vietnam Veterans Against the War, Winter Soldier Investigation, 1971.”
