The concept for this image was inspired by James C Scott’s the Art of Not Being Governed: An Anarchist History of Upland Asia, which describes a variety of ways various groups have evaded and/or escaped being incorporated into the nation-state. Title lifted from a Run the Jewels song.
The main layer of the image was burned directly onto screen from an original paper-cut. There are slight variations/streaking in the background colors, and a shimmer (gold ink) hard to capture on camera.
