Mothers who do everything they can to make ends meet.
Mothers who’ve lost their families to violence.
My own mother, who I spent weeks taking care of as I carved these two blocks with her in front of the television.
My aunt, recently passed, who was never anybody’s biological mother, but who provided deeply for so many in her long and full life.
Strength, resilience, and power in the face of domination, indifference, and unknown futures.

It is also true that I am very much into bears – biologically, culturally, mythologically.

Both color blocks were registered, inked, and printed by hand, rather than on a press. As such, there are slight variations per print.
