This print is one of nine apart of the Autonomous Democracy project open edition from 2021. The series focused on highlighting the history of direct democracy within freedom movements. Since screen printing the original edition at Spudnik Press Cooperative the series has been wheat paste around the world from the streets of Chicago to Montreal to London to Mexico City.
This print celebrates Zapatismo and is based on a slogan shared by Andrea Narno who notes, "Queremos un mundo donde quepan muchos mundos (We want a world where many worlds fit), from the EZLN Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional. This is what the EZLN has been working towards and this phrase has been a long standing one."
Zapatismo is not a new political ideology, or a rehash of old ideologies. Zapatismo is nothing, it does not exist. It only serves as a bridge, to cross from one side, to the other. So everyone fits within Zapatismo, everyone who wants to cross from one side, to the other. There are no universal recipes, lines, strategies, tactics, laws, rules, or slogans. There is only a desire – to build a better world, that is, a new world.
