A number of the collaborations that Justseeds members work on with social justice organizations get a fair amount of recognition, whether it’s the art builds that have been happening with striking teachers across the country or the veteran organizing projects Aaron Hughes has been spearheading. I wanted to take a moment to highlight a much quieter collaboration that has been happening over the past couple years, our growing relationship with San Francisco’s Coalition on Homelessness, and in particular their newspaper Street Sheet.
Over the past couple years Street Sheet editors Sam Lew and Quiver Watts have repeatedly reached out to us to use our artwork on and in the paper, and the results have been really exciting. Over a half dozen covers have featured Justseeds-related art, they have been stunning to see, and hopefully they have helped sell the paper on the street. Artists have included myself, Jesus Barraza, Melanie Cervantes, Kevin Caplicki, Shaun Slifer, and Justseeds’ friends Dave Loewenstein and Micah Bazant. Here are some images of the cover designs, and a grid of images from the Coalition’s Instagram page of the covers being interacted with.
If you live in the Bay Area, please buy Street Sheet when you see it, the work of the Coalition is vital and powerful, and needs our support!
