I’m involved in campaigns against data center development here in Oregon, which is third in the nation for construction of these disastrous infrastructural monstrosities; tools for an anti-social class of capitalist maniacs to dispossess us of our history, destroy our livelihoods, ruin our environments, and generate obscene and fake amounts of profit. I’ve struggled with how to represent them, until I just said fuck it: floating skull. That’s what they make me think of, and so that’s the image I’ve used. This is how political art gets made: you have to find an idea to embody the thing you’re talking about, and it doesn’t have to be a representation of the thing itself.
