This print is inspired by Bruce Bagemihl's paradigm-shifting book Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity. These female peccaries are performing a courting behavior called "riding," which you can also see in my 2019 screenprint Riding Sliding Rumba, in some inspired footwear.
I unearthed a small stack of these offset + screenprints that I created back in 2011, after taking an offset printing class with Jacques Bidon at AS220 in Providence, RI. After offset printing this drawing in red, I screenprinted some flames and the text in a sweet fade gradient of red and metallic gold to accentuate their exuberance. There is an offset print on the reverse as well, a repeat pattern of baby hawks.
