Urgent denunciation: aggression against VOCAL member, David Venegas

This Wednesday, June 17, at approximately 1:30 in the afternoon, the encampment set up in the Zocalo of the city of Oaxaca by the Family and Friends of the APPO Political Prisoners was attacked by a group of around 40 hired hoodlums (porros), well-known in the city as a paramilitary force that committed violent actions beginning with the
Oaxaca insurrection of 2006.
The attack occurred only minutes after several APPO members, including some of the teachers and VOCAL member David Venegas Reyes, started to give a press conference at the encampment to make their position clear about the accusations against David made by Hugo Jarquín, leader of the “8 Regions” organization.
Several days beforehand Hugo Jarquín accused David Venegas Reyes of being a “mercenary” and an “infiltrated agent” responsible for organizing “acts of vandalism” last June 14. Jarquín stated that he would form “shock groups” to put an end to the “insecurity generated by ‘El Alebrije’ and his followers.” Jarquín’s organization, “8 Regions,” and the FALP had withdrawn from the encampment on June 15 supposedly
because of their disagreement with our comrades, but they really left because of the agreement they made with the killer Ulises Ruiz’s state government to destabilize the camp and provoke its removal.

Jarquín’s statements only confirm that he is the person responsible for the brutal attack suffered by our comrades at the camp, including David Venegas, on June 17, by dozens of hired thugs swinging lead pipes.
After the attack, with the support of the teachers participating in the camp, some of the aggressors were intercepted, including Marcos Mateo Esteva Cruz, alias “El Aladin”, known as the Commander of the Death Squads responsible for dozens of deaths during the insurrection of 2006 and other violent acts since then. These factors lead us to believe that there was complicity between Jarquín, FALP, “8 Regions,” the paramilitaries, and the police themselves in yesterday’s attack, ordered by killer Ulises Ruiz’s state government.
The camp was set up on May 15 by the family and friends of APPO political prisoners Víctor Hugo Martínez Toledo and Miguel Ángel García, who were released last June 4. Even though they are free, the camp is still being maintained in spite of all the harassment and violent attacks in order to achieve the freedom of political prisoners Pedro Castillo Aragón and Juan Manuel Martínez Moreno.
Today’s aggression occurred in a context of state government repression in which weak organizations are bought off and then used to in a strategy of violence along with the paramilitary thugs to quell dissent in the Zócalo.
In spite of these attacks and the criminalization of our struggle by the government as well as by certain groups that consider themselves part if the movement, we plan to keep on participating in the encampment.

Denuncia Urgente: agresión contra el integrante de Vocal, David Venegas
Este miércoles 17 de junio, aproximadamente a la 1:30 de la tarde, el Plantón de Familiares y Amigos de los Presos Políticos de la APPO, instalado en el Zócalo de la capital oaxaqueña, fue atacado por un grupo de unos 40 porros conocidos en la ciudad por sus acciones violentas desde la insurrección que se dio en Oaxaca en el año 2006.
La agresión se dio minutos antes de que varios integrantes de la APPO-incluidos miembros del magisterio y David Venegas Reyes (miembro de VOCAL)- se dispusieran a realizar una rueda de prensa en el lugar para aclarar su posición respecto a las acusaciones que el propio David ha recibido de parte de Hugo Jarquín, dirigente de la organización “Ocho regiones”.
Hugo Jarquín responsabilizó días atrás a David Venegas Reyes -al que calificó de “mercenario” e “infiltrado”- de organizar lo que llamó “actos vandálicos”, ocurridos el 14 de junio pasado, y declaró que conformaría un “grupo de choque” para acabar con la “inseguridad que generan ‘El Alebrije’ y sus seguidores”. La organización de Jarquín, llamada 8 regiones y la organización FALP habían abandonado el día 15 de junio el plantón debido a su supuesta inconformidad con nuestros compañeros, cuando en realidad su retiro es parte de los acuerdos a los que ha llegado con el gobierno estatal del asesino Ulises Ruiz para desestabilizar el plantón y lograr su retiro del zócalo de nuestra ciudad.
Estas declaraciones de Jarquín no hacen más que confirmar que es el responsable de la brutal agresión que sufrieron en el día de hoy 17 de Junio varios de nuestros compañeros, incluido David Venegas, en un ataque con decenas de porros que con tubos agredieron brutalmente a quienes se encontraban en el plantón.
Tras la agresión, y con el apoyo de los maestros que participan en el plantón, se consiguió interceptar a varios de los agresores, incluido Marcos Mateo Esteva Cruz, alias “El Aladin”, conocido por comandar las Caravanas de la Muerte responsables de decenas de muertes durante la insurrección de 2006 y de otras acciones violentas posteriores. Dichos sucesos nos hacen pensar que los hechos se produjeron con la complicidad de Jarquín, las organizaciones FALP y Ocho Regiones, en coordinación con los porros y las propias corporaciones policíacas, por orden del gobierno estatal del asesino Ulises Ruiz.
El plantón fue instalado el 15 de mayo por los familiares y amigos de Víctor Hugo Martínez Toledo y Miguel Ángel García, presos políticos de la APPO , que fueron liberados el pasado 4 de junio. Si bien se logro la liberación de ambos compañeros, el plantón continúa en estos momentos, en medio de actos de hostigamiento y agresiones, en busca de la libertad de los presos políticos Pedro Castillo Aragón y Juan Manuel Martínez Moreno.
Las agresiones de este día, se enmarcan en un contexto de represión ordenada desde el gobierno estatal, tratando de comprar a organizaciones endebles para después atacar con porros el plantón que se encuentra instalado en el Zócalo, pretendiendo a través de esta estrategia violenta que la manifestación de descontento en la Plaza se retire.
A pesar de las agresiones y la criminalización de nuestra lucha tanto desde sectores del Gobierno como desde ciertos grupos que se consideran parte del movimiento, mantenemos nuestra intención de continuar con nuestra participación en el plantón.
